Danielle was a dedicated student. She spent much of her time at the library and was known for diligently studying both in and out of her academic life. She received a degree in English with a concentration in Linguistics and a minor in African American Studies from Old Dominion University in May 2020 with summa cum laude distinction. She was enrolled in ODU’s Graduate Program in the Institute for the Humanities with a concentration in Cultural Studies.
This is no small feat, this is an amazing accomplishment and speaks directly to Danielle’s perseverance, passion, and dynamic intelligence. We are so proud of her.
The extent of Danielle’s service to others cannot be overstated. She touched countless lives with her work. Danielle studied books, articles, and art centered around mass incarceration. While in college, Danielle became heavily involved with Humanities Behind Bars ("HBB"). Through HBB, the 757 bail fund assisted over 36 individuals in 2020. Their zine, “Contraband Love," amplified the the art and experiences of incarcerated people. Danielle helped create a database of incarcerated people looking to receive support from the outside community through the pen pal program. She also drafted and compiled instructions and resources to assist those wanting to become involved.
